Baby on the way
And one other thing to tell you. My wife is pregnant at about 10 weeks with an expected due date of late January 2010. Very cool stuff. So I've got a new motivation for writing and recording as much as possible before the baby takes up even more of the time I don't have.
I Can't Decide
Another song I wrote recently came after learning "1, 2, 3, 4, (I love you)" by the Plain White T's. I swear this song could be easily in their collection. The chords came to me and I started singing their kind of melodies and this hit. It's probably the catchiest thing I've ever written. I can't decide on a good song name for it. And while the lyrics has ties to my personal life, the general feeling of the song is nothing like my relationship with my wife, so it's kind of strange singing in that vein. Also, I am probably most proud of the chorus and it's transition to the bridge. Oh it gets me.
First thing, and I know that it's for sure.
Right now, you're beautiful and pure
But wait, there's no need to before
I think she's waiting
Think fast, a drink is on it's way
stage dive This is what I'm trying to say
crowd surf tomorrow I will pay
but now I'm waiting
She sighs It has been too long
she cries I don't know what's wrong
she sings but I know it's not my song
I think she's waiting
I write the melodies for her
she knows I love her to be sure
But now she's waiting for something more
but now I'm waiting
I
I can't decide
I think it's over
One last time to see if it's right.
I
I can't decide
It can't be over
You are still standing by my side
I found a setting for her ring
I got her father's blessing
A priest is set for the wedding
but now I'm waiting
Thursday I'm calling all my friends
That night I'm tying up loose ends
Friday starts the rest of my weekends
we're no longer waiting
I
I can't decide
I think it's over
One last time to see if it's right.
I
I can't decide
It can't be over
You are still standing by my side
And you're still by my side
And you're still by my side
And you're still by my side
Give me a kiss and it'll be ok
A big embrace will be the way
Only one thing I have left to say
Is stay for me.
for Me.
I
I can't decide
I think it's over
One last time to see if it's right.

The Big Plateau
I'm writing again. It's a lot of fun. The same way I came up with ROCK ROCK, this was just at work when the chorus melody hit me. I went to my car and recorded it my new Vado HD camera which I'm now using to record my open mic performances.
When I hummed it to myself the first time "The Big Plateau" was actually "zing zang zong" and I wanted it be heavily asian influenced. But when I eventually got on my guitar and started messing around with the chords to make it work, the asian influence disappeared (probably because I'm not familiar enough with any kind of asian writing) and instead I decided to write a song that was similar to Nirvana's version of the Meat Puppets' "Lake of Fire"
So this has one chorus and two versus and hopefully the rest will be some lead guitar work. I'll have to have a friend sit in and write that for me probably.
So here are the lyrics as of now:
The Big Plateau
Everybody's going to the big plateau
and they're singin and they're sinnin and they don't know why
Everybody's going to the big plateau
and they're singin and they're sinnin to the sky.
First thing that occured to him
when looking down from his hotel room
This is not the place for him
as he stared up at the pale blue moon
She wanders the streets at night
looking up the balcony
This is not the place for her
They just committed adultery
That last line I'm not happy with. I don't want to spell out that the song is about adultery. I want it to be incinuated and I thought about using "felony" but while it rhymes nicely, it's just not the right word.
